Emma was born in Solihull in the West Midlands, moving with her parents to Amersham in Buckinghamshire in 1977. Emma now lives in the neighbouring village of Chalfont St Giles with her partner Tim Butcher who is a Conservative County Councillor.
Emma has been actively involved with the Party since 1986 and has combined various voluntary roles with a career firstly in, retail and private banking and then Emma joined a leading edge IT consultancy based in Buckinghamshire where she worked as a Marketing and Events manager for ten years.
Emma now runs her own consultancy specialising in organising seminar and conferences. "Running my own business is perfect for my lifestyle. It allows me to earn my living whilst at the same time freeing up the copious amounts of time that I spend each week on Conservative Party endeavours".
Emma has been passionate about politics for nearly thirty years. Emma joined the Conservative Party in 1986 when Margaret Thatcher was in the second of her three terms as the great reforming Prime Minister. "It was Margaret Thatcher who inspired me to join" says Emma - and Emma has given uninterrupted voluntary service ever since.
Emma cut her political teeth as a Young Conservative (now Conservative Future), being voted in as local Chairman in 1992. She also stood and was elected as a Councillor on Chiltern District in 1991, where she served for eight years.
In 2000, Emma was elected Association Chairman of the Chesham & Amersham constituency. It was during this time, under Emma's leadership, that the financially failing Association turned around into one that has since become an Association in the Premier League (i.e. making a significant financial contribution into Party Headquarters.) Emma also led the Association into a successful grouping that has seen the organisation go from strength to strength, whilst fiercely protecting the autonomy and individual identity of the Association.
After her time as Association Chairman, Emma was elected to the Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Area Team. Emma was Deputy Chairman with responsibility for membership & fundraising throughout the two counties, and then became Area Chairman in 2004.
In 2006 Emma stood for election as a Vice President to the National Convention. She was successfully elected and served on the Party Board for four years, the final year as President of the National Convention, where she had the immense privilege of chairing the 2009 Party Conference in Manchester.
During that time as an Officer of the National Convention, Emma had responsibility for various geographical regions of the country including Northern Ireland (she is currently President of the Northern Ireland Conservatives), as well as a varied and far reaching portfolio including membership and forging stronger relations with our professional agents.
Emma, worked with, the then Chairman of the National Convention, Don Porter, with the launch of a new initiative - the National Excellence Awards. These awards recognise the tireless work that our voluntary teams put in throughout the country.
After serving the maximum term of four years as Vice President and President of the National Convention Emma continued to work alongside the voluntary party.
In the lead up to the 2010 General Election, Emma worked alongside her colleague and former Officer of the National Convention Simon Mort, to develop and deliver a National Volunteer Tour of the marginal seats. In just less than four weeks, Emma and Simon led teams of volunteers to over seventy constituencies throughout the country from as far south as St Ives in Cornwall to Newcastle in the north. These teams, actively campaigned alongside local volunteers, giving support both in terms of feet on the ground plus much needed morale boosting, sometimes covering three different constituencies in a day.
After the 2010 General Election, Emma was appointed as National Volunteer By-Election Co-ordinator. Emma spent the first few weeks after the General Election in the Yorkshire constituency of Thirsk & Malton, where there was a delayed General Election. Her challenge was to motivate an already exhausted, but still highly enthusiastic team of volunteers.
Since then Emma has lead the Voluntary Party Campaign Support in the Oldham East & Saddleworth, Barnsley Central and Inverclyde Parliamentary By Elections. Her task was to draw together as many fellow volunteers from around the country to help in these elections, either on the streets or by telephone canvassing support.
On May 14th 2011, Emma, once again with her colleague Simon Mort, launched the project of 'Performance Improvement'. The aim of this project was to increase performance in both Conservative held seats and target seats that we failed to win in 2010. Emma worked alongside both Area Teams and local Associations to improve a number of activities including membership, fundraising and peacetime campaigning.
On March 3rd 2012, Emma was elected unopposed as Chairman of the Party's National Convention. Emma was similarly re-elected in March 2013 for a further year.
Emma was appointed a CBE in the New Year Honours List 2014 for voluntary political service.
